Perth Doo'cot Cricket Club 3rd XI v Falkland XI on Sun 27 Jul 2014 at 1.00
Perth Doo'cot Cricket Club Lost By 10 runs

Match report With the Scottish Challenge Cup semi final scheduled for the same day we sent a young team to Falkland which included 3 kids who were supposed to face a Falkland under 11 team that morning before it was called off due to Falkland being unable to field a team.
Falkland is a pleasant ground but this was an extremely unpleasant game. With Falkland being asked to bat first the tone for the day was set when the Falkland opener edged the third ball of the day to the keeper. He didn't walk and the umpire gave him not out. As it happened Rory clean bowled him next ball and on returning to the pavilion he happily confessed to his team mates that he had edged the previous ball but that it was the umpires job to give him out. Just a little reminder here that this was a Strathmore & Perthshire Union Div 3 game not the deciding test match in and England Australia series!
Falkland racked up 226 for 8 with the help of 75 from 1st team regular Gallagher. In reply we were three down with only 28 on the board when Jamal Ali joined Arun at the crease but they got Doocot back in to contention by taking the score on to 141 before Jamal fell LBW to youngster Robertson for a fine 69. It was during this period when it looked like Doocot were getting the upper hand that the Falkland players (with a few exceptions) got rattled and things turned ugly with umpires and batsmen being frequently abused, goaded and yelled at.Oh and Arun being hit on the head by a beamer and the bowler having to be told by the captain that he should probably apologise. The captain made some attept to curb the worst excesses but it was largely ineffective. Altogether totally inappropriate in what is supposed to a division intended for developing younger players. The Doocot run chase eventually ended 10 short of the target, a really good effort.
As a club we were considering whether running a 3rd team in Div 3 was viable next year. This game may well have made our minds up. Playing friendlies may seem more appropriate where you can choose who you play against (and who you don't). If that's the route we go down, a game against Falkland is unlikely to make the fixture list.
